“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Matthew 7:21-24

According to the reports of the International Religious Freedom, the government estimated as of 2019 that Kenya has 85.5 percent of people who profess to be Christians.  This means that almost 46 million out of 54 million people profess to be Christians. Is this true? Looking at the lives of people, we see high rates of corruption in the country starting from the Government going all the way down to the normal citizen, sexual immorality, drug abuse, lies, and other kinds of evil. Is this the life of a people who profess to be Christian? In John 14:15 Christ tells His disciples that if they love Him they will keep his commandments. In Galatians 5, Paul lays out the fruit of the Holy Spirit. When you examine the scriptures and look at the characters of most of the professing Christians you will come to a conclusion that most likely they are not Christians.

Cultural Christianity has taken root in Kenya, where Christianity is just a label to many people and nothing more than that. They will label themselves to be Christians because they were born in a Christian home, they went to Church, they were baptized when they were children, they claim to be good people, and other religious activities that relate to Christianity but in reality, they are still dead in their sins. These people do not understand what the Gospel is, there is no transformation in their hearts and yet they would gladly jump up to say that they are Christians.

I believe, sadly, that majority of these people if they die in their current state will end up in hell.  I believe that these are the kind of people who will say Lord, Lord, did we not do this and that, and Christ will plainly tell them that He never knew them. It will be a shock to them. Why I’m I saying this? Just because you have a label of Christianity does not qualify you to be a Christian. The devil is using cultural Christianity to get people to hell quickly. A Christian is a person who has repented of his sins and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin.  A Christian is a person who solely relies upon the works of Christ and not his own and as a result of that, the fruit of the Spirit is seen in his life. He will hate the things that God hates and He will love the things that God loves. He will be a person who does the will of God the Father. That is what Christianity is.
