So there won’t be much to this except affirming with Scripture what Jonathan Edwards once said in that; “Nature is God’s Greatest Evangelist.”

I believe this not only to be true but as we are going to see from the scriptures is the main reason the world exists in the first place. However, even if it is true that the world was created for the glory of God as all things are for Him, through Him and to Him (Romans 11:33-36), it is also true that we perverted this world to the point that there is the promise of the new heavens and new earth and also that this world we live in is reserved for fire and being kept for the day of judgment and will be used for the destruction of ungodly men (2 Peter 3:3-14). Not only that those who God calls His children are but sojourners in this world and should always look to the better country (1 Peter 2:11-12, Hebrews 11:13).

The reason for the sort of asterisk I have used is to put emphasis on the fact that unlike most people in the world today we shouldn’t look to nature as a sort of god or idol but rather when we look and are awed by the beauty of God’s creation whether it be nature or even your fellow human beings that our amazement at their beauty should always point us to God.

Without further ado here are but some selected scriptures that show how creation reveals God’s majesty:

Seeing His creation leaves us without excuse:

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

Romans 1:20

His creation tells us of His Works and Glory and shows His abundant worth:

The heavens are telling of the glory of God; and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night reveals knowledge.

Psalm 19:1-2

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:16-17

“Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.”

Revelation 4:11

Creation shows us that we should only depend on Him:

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Psalm 121:1-4

It makes our faith real:

By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Hebrews 11:3

Finally, creation reveals Christ to us:

in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Hebrews 1:2-4

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

John 1:1-5

yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom are all things and we exist for Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we exist through Him.

1 Corinthians 8:6

My hope and prayer are that these verses which are but a few among many show you not only of God’s glory but also His sufficient nature so that in all you do, you not only do it to the glory of His name but also in accordance with His perfect will and by His strength. Shalom.
